Leeds returned to winning ways at the weekend as they beat Bristol City in a game that Marcelo Bielsa’s side had to win following their terrible performance against West Brom before the international break.
United had struggled for form over the last few weeks, mainly down to multiple injuries in the side.
Partly down to Bielsa’s intense style of play, Leeds had lost the likes of Kemar Roofe, Pablo Hernandez, Barry Douglas, Gaetano Berardi and most recently Luke Ayling.
As a result of those injuries, Bielsa has been forced to call on graduates from Thorp Arch, most recently Leif Davis, Kamil Miazek, Aapo Halme and Will Huffer.
All of the youth players have done well but ahead of their game against Reading tonight, Bielsa has singled out Samu Saiz in particular for praise.
The Breakdown
In his pre-match press conference, Bielsa spoke of how good a player Saiz and that he is one of the best players in the league.
He’s yet to score a goal in the league this season and has recently been used as a substitute by Bielsa but he still remains a key player for the side. With the return of Adam Forshaw, the Spaniard has dropped out of the side. Forshaw has done well recently but in Saiz, Bielsa has a player that is probably the best in the side with the ball at his feet.
The 27-year-old is arguably the only player who can take players in one on one situations. He has the rare talent to beat players in tight areas and although he might be out of form, he remains an essential player for Leeds.
