da bet nacional: Former Newcastle United and England star Paul Gascoigne is no longer facing drink-driving charges.
da betano casino: The chief crown prosecutor for North Yorkshire, Xanthe Tait, confirmed on Friday that the troubled star’s trial at the Northallerton Magistrates’ Court would no longer take place.
“Criminal proceedings against Paul Gascoigne were discontinued at Northallerton Magistrates’ Court yesterday,” Ms Tait said.
Gascoigne, 43, had faced court on several occasions in the past year.
His co-accused Michael Harvey, 41, will still stand trial over the incident which occurred during a fishing trip with Gazza in February last year.
Gazza was to appear before magistrates in Northallerton on February 15, where he was accused of driving a Ford Transit van when the level of alcohol in urine was 467mg in 100ml and driving without insurance.
The trial had been adjourned four times since the pair pleaded not guilty to allegations that both men drove a Ford Transit while under the influence of alcohol at Leeming Bar, North Yorkshire, on February 7, last year.
Charles Weidner, representing Harvey, said on Friday: “I believe there has been a further statement from a witness which lead the prosecution to believe there was no realistic chance of a prosecution against Mr Gascoigne.”
“However, my client’s trial will still go ahead.”
Ms Tait added: “Further evidence has been served on the Crown Prosecution Service by Mr Gascoigne’s defence solicitors which conflicts with information previously provided. Additionally a key witness has emigrated and was therefore not able to attend the trial to support the prosecution.
“Unexpectedly a new witness provided evidence which further undermined the prosecution case. In accordance with our obligations under the Code for Crown Prosecutors, this case was kept under regular review and we have decided that there is no longer sufficient evidence to provide a realistic prospect of conviction. The evidence presented to us during these proceedings has changed significantly.”
“Our case against Michael Harvey, the co-accused will still proceed.”
